In April 2013, the lads started playing acoustical covers and jam sessions in Til's living room for fun and had pasta before their rehearsals.
But in a very quick time, they wrote their own songs, influenced by melancholic sounds and deep melodic guitar playing. Nick Drake had lots of influence on Krebs, because of his individual guitar playing and the transmission of sincere and true emotion through the music. Waldhier was influenced by the funky and jazzy guitar playing of various international musicians. Smolen had been playing classic guitar for many years, but as a bassguitar player was needed, he was open to learn the instrument and to pursue it. Dehais had been playing the djembe for few years and learned to play the drums through the band.
After a few months, a new step had been made towards a new direction of sinewy indie-rock and a mix of lots of different styles, because of the importance of musical candour. Bands like The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pink Floyd and Bombay Bicycle Club were very important for the musical development of The Tonecooks. In October 2013, they had their first concert in a little pub in Munich and from that moment on, they have experienced a fast musical progress. Due to the fact that many loyal friends and fans were always on the run to go to their concerts, a deep feeling of connection was born between the band and the listeners.
In December 2014, their first Album ´Camel in the Ghost Train´ has been recorded at Telstarstudios and has been released in February 2015.
Now that the band is reunited after Krebs´ traveling through South America and Waldhier´s, Smolen´s and Dehais' A-levels, the band is going step by step developing their own sinewy and sincere sound.
