With high profile fans including Tenement TV, BBC Scotland’s Vic Galloway and Jim Gellatly, if you don’t recognise the name, you will soon.

Based in Edinburgh, swim school are a 4 piece, indie-pop band made up of Alice Johnson (Vocals/Guitar), Lewis Bunting (Guitar), Nairn Milne (Drums) and Matt Mitchell (Bass). Taking influences from across genres and time with artists such as The Cure, The House of Love to The Night Café and Wolf Alice turning them into something that’s their own.

They dived into Scotland’s burgeoning indie scene in 2019 with their debut single ‘sway’ which turned heads and attracted the attention of Vic Galloway and Janice Forsyth at BBC Radio Scotland, Tenement TV, Record of the Day, Jim Gellatly and currently sits at 70,000 streams on Spotify. Since then, swim school have released the singles ‘take you there’, ‘too young to know’ and most recently 'how it should be' which have been equally accredited.

On stage is where swim school feel most at home. With triumphant performances at TRNSMT, Belladrum festival, Tenement Trail and multiple sold out shows at the iconic King Tuts Wah Wah Hut in Glasgow the year ended with the band supporting The XCERTS on their 11 date UK tour. It was an adventure that took the band outside of their home territory for the first time.

That unexpected first year is behind swim school now, but solid foundations have been laid and the ambition and momentum are stronger than ever. 2020 started with another sold out show at King Tut’s in Glasgow ahead of their debut headline show in their hometown Edinburgh which sold out months in advance. A new single ‘how it should be’, their first TV performance and a live schedule that brings them across the UK again are strong signals that swim school are not to be slept on.
