From Scandza | Album | 2023 |
Blending the raw aggression of thrash metal with the sweeping melodies of death metal and a touch of black metal darkness, the Finnish powerhouse has carved a unique niche in the modern metal landscape.
Founded in 2006 by visionary frontman Toni Cano, the band spent years refining a concept deeply rooted in Gothic history and mythology. After a decade of research—including Cano’s immersion in the historical Gothic language—Midjungards burst onto the scene with their 2023 debut "From Scandza." Since then, the band has maintained a prolific pace, releasing the acclaimed "When Empires Fall" (2024) and the darker, more atmospheric "Ravens and Eagles" (2025).
A New Era: Long Haired Kings
In 2026, Midjungards enters their most ambitious chapter yet with the upcoming fourth studio album, "Long Haired Kings." Recorded and produced by the band themselves, the new material marks a shift toward a more modern, epic, and massive sound.
The album takes inspiration from the Gothic kings of old, for whom long hair was a sacred symbol of bravery and royal blood. Lead singles like "Berik Ships," "Hlöðskviða," and the title track "Long Haired Kings" showcase a band at the peak of their storytelling prowess, weaving tales of the Battle of the Goths and Huns and the cursed sword Tyrfing into a sonic tapestry of crushing riffs and haunting choruses.
"With this album, we wanted to go deeper into the duality of our world—the battle between light and darkness," says Toni Cano. "It’s an intense exploration of our past, brought to life through a sound that is both gritty and melodic."
