Her powerful voice “a glorious holler” that “flows effortlessly from within” was recently profiled on Japan’s national television network. A former student of legendary jazz bassist Richard Davis, Julie Michels has performed around the world - in Scotland, the Isle of Arran, the North Sea Jazz Festival, the Haiti International Jazz Festival and at jazz clubs in Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Holland, and across North America. Julie Michels performs and records brilliant interpretations in every style imaginable - from Jazz and Funk to Latin, Gospel, Broadway show tunes and her own original songs. She has shared the stage with many great international artists, including Ernest Dawkins, Kahil El’Zabar, Joris Teepe, Massimo Fafarao, David Restivo, Larnell Lewis, Davide Direnzo and Kirk MacDonald.
Julie’s many recordings with Canadian artists include critically acclaimed duo albums, with guitarist, Kevin Barrett and bassist George Koller. Her most recent recording, “The Don Braden/Julie Michels Project”, with virtuosic New York saxophonist and flutist Don Braden is “the perfect balance of soul, great jazz and fabulous audience connection.” A “riveting, exciting, joyful and memorable experience” ...Julie and Don’s latest CD, “Come Together” is exactly that.
