From cheekily teaching himself to play his older brother’s guitar as a child (and quickly putting it back in place when his brother came home from school), to playing the piano, or rocking out on drums, AMIR is an all-rounder in the music business: a self-taught musician who sings, plays multiple instruments, and writes his own songs, from lyrics to melodies.
Born in North London, to a father hailing from Punjab, India, and a mother from Leicester, AMIR realised at a young age that he loved music. It wasn’t just a passion: it was his life. In his enthusiasm, he took on any opportunity to sing and dance that was offered to him – but something was still missing. It was only when he quit everything else to concentrate on his own music that the pieces of the puzzle slotted together.
AMIR writes his own melodies and lyrics, and translates them to an audience with his funky soulful vocals. Always composing and performing, he has developed his own style, tackling tough themes like the search for good in bad, or how to move on when stuck, in love and life. These universal themes resonate with anyone.
AMIR’s confidence and maturity when it comes to composing songs are down, in part, to his sensitivity as an artiste. His songs are often metaphors. Anyone who’s ever felt ignored, betrayed or belittled can find something in his work that resonates with their own experiences. Yes, despite the tough themes, his songs are often upbeat and cheerful, putting smiles on faces, and a spring in (dance) steps.
Having recently returned from several months writing in LA and NY with some top
