Africa International House USA, Inc. (AIH) is a vibrant nonprofit organization dedicated to celebrating and promoting the rich tapestry of African cultures. Established in 1994, AIH was born from the passionate vision of Dr. Delores (Dee) Parmer and Patrick Woodtor, who had returned from Liberia in 1982. Their journey led them to create "Window to Africa" (WTA), an African art and gift store nestled in Harper Court, Hyde Park.

WTA quickly became a hub for art and cultural enthusiasts, including Joanne Scott, Shionah Chancellor, Steven B. Jackson, Dayo Laoye, Gwen Luster, and Curtis Chancellor. Their shared commitment to African heritage brought forth a vibrant array of programs, drawing large crowds and igniting the community's spirit. From captivating exhibitions to lively fairs and fashionable showcases, WTA was a beacon of cultural diversity.

One of the memorable milestones was the debut of the Bahamas National Dance Troupe in Chicago, a testament to the cultural exchange that WTA facilitated. In 1989, the passionate team at WTA gathered a group of like-minded cultural supporters to manage their activities, culminating in the birth of the African Festival of the Arts (AFA).

In 1994, AIH emerged as a nonprofit organization, solidifying its role in managing the AFA. Their mission, "To serve as a center that exposes and educates all peoples to the individual works and collective contributions of African cultures," became the guiding light. AIH operates under the governance of a dedicated board of directors, seamlessly blending community support with corporate sponsorship.

Today, Africa International House continues to be an essential institution for fostering connections between Africa and the African Diaspora. Through their Center for Contemporary African Art and Culture, they present an array of art and cultural programs that enrich and educate the people of Chicago. The African Festival of the Arts remains their flagship program, a beacon of unity and a celebration of African heritage.
